We Have a Heartbeat!

Baby is alive and well, praise the Lord! I got there and a nurse weighed me and had me give her a urine sample. She gave me a pregnancy journal and signed me up for 6 free months of Pregnancy and Parenting magazine and a Similac package with a diaper bag, formula, and coupons... I'll be breastfeeding though so it doesn't matter but it's still cool. My blood pressure was good and my blood work from 2 weeks ago was perfect. I got changed in a pretty little hospital gown (insert sarcasm here) and waited for my midwife to come in. She opened the door and hugged me immediately and said she was so happy and excited to see me back again and asked how my little ladies were. She ran through all the usual questions about family health and asked me when my last period was. I informed her that I practice FAM (fertility awareness method) thanks to the book "Taking Charge Of Your Fertility" for birth control and also use it to conceive so I know I ovulated on February the 15th which places me to be due around November 9th. She said "I love educated women, it makes my job so much easier. That book should be read by every woman" LoL. I told her I got a positive pregnancy test at only 9 days past ovulation and she said she thought baby implanted earlier because of that. She checked my thyroid, my heart, and my lungs and then had me lay down to do a breast exam which was fine. She then asked about my choice of pain meds for labor and delivery. I told her my horrible story with Rylie and how I'd like to go pain med free. She said she was really happy with that choice but said you have to promise me one thing... you won't ask me for an induction because you know I won't give you one unless it's necessary, I'm a midwife, not an OB and gave me a huge smile. I said I know I know, I was impatient with the last 2 and just wanted the baby here but have done a lot of research and know I should wait. She said "You're right, you won't be pregnant forever and God will bring that little cutie into the world when He's ready for him or her to be here. Inductions cause 35% of c-sections and we really don't want you to need one of those unless it's necessary". Of course I agreed. She said she wouldn't let me go past 42 weeks. She then checked for the heartbeat and found it after 30 seconds or so. It was in the 170s and she said it was perfect. She then did the pap smear and checked my cervix which is nice and shut, my uterus is around the size of an orange, and that the chances of miscarriage dropped from 30% to 3%... what a load off my mind! She told me to get dressed because she wanted to do an ultrasound for fun so we could peek in at little munchkin. So she ran out to the waiting room to get Andy and the girls. She gave Taylor a hug and picked Rylie up right away and said "the last time I saw you, you were 6 weeks old and so tiny. Now you're a gorgeous little blue eyed girl" and Rylie started "talking" with her. She had the machine ready to go so I laid down, she put the gel on, and there was my sweet baby :) Baby was sleeping so she/he didn't move at all but you could see the little heart flickering away on the screen and could clearly make out the eyes, the nose, the mouth, and the chin. Going from crown to rump measurements I would be due November 7th so not too far off from my original guess, baby's getting big fast. So she set me up with another ultrasound April 29th, 2 weeks from today, so she can have better measurements and I go back May 10th for another appointment. She said somewhere between 18 and 20 weeks she'll set up my level 2 ultrasound which checks on all the organs and the growth and of course... the gender! I totally think it's another little girl! I already love her/him so much! We went out this afternoon and got the baby book, our first and only purchase until we learn the gender. Photobucket isn't working for me right now, of course *rolls eyes* so once it is I'll post pictures of my little baby <3
